If you are running a website or blog without doing or following a proper internal linking strategy on it you might be losing traffic from search engines. Internal linking is the links on your website/blog that point to other pages within your same website. There are two direct benefits you gain when developing or refining your internal linking structure. One, you’ll make your website better from a user’s perspective. Two, you’ll rank better in search engines. Internal links often can have similar effectiveness and value as external links.
So here are suggestions you can take on action to do internal linking strategy on your website :
- Add links in your navigation or footer as text links to all your important pages and main sections. This is a very easy and an extremely effective tactic that not all sites do, and even fewer do for maximum results.
- Make use of the rel=”nofollow” attribute when you make link to pages such as a privacy page, terms page, checkout pages or contact pages that you don’t care if they rank well in search engines.
- Use different description phrases to point to the same inner page. Since the anchor text affect your search engine rankings, then this will allows your website to get the page ranked for multiple terms and helps the user since you’re being descriptive and making your anchor text better match the content of the page it’s on.
- Make links in your content. If you have text on your site, make some of the words within the text, links that point to other pages within your website.
- Make the anchor text what you do want it to get ranked for your website Homepage. Donot use “HOME” word for it. By doing this, you’re supplying a lot of link value to the homepage since it is getting all these internal links pointing back to it.
- Make important pages at most two clicks away from your homepage. The farther away a page is, the worse it ranks. So if you put a page in a five clicks deep within your website, then search engine will likely consider that page not as important as a one click deep page.
This linking strategy is good for users and allows search engines to index your web pages more quickly. By following these internal linking strategy, you will be far ahead of the competition, rank better in major search engines and you can be making more profit out of your website/blog.

if you want to keep your pagerank up it’s important to relink you everywhere but you should follow some terms when you do this.
I think that any blog should be do-follow. Even if people are coming just to put links it still gives our site traffic, making it higher on the search engine and better all together.

It is good information for Internal Linking Strategies.

Varyin gyour internal linking text for a particular page is indeed a good strategy for gaining SERPs. It runs in my mind that 2 links with the same anchor text from/to the same pages doesn’t help you any more than 1 link.
Sorry, that was confusing… ok, say you’re using anchor text “widget” to link from Page A to Page B. If you have 2 links on Page A that use the anchor text “widget”, and both of those links point to Page B, I think they only count as 1 link.
Conversely, if one links uses anchor text “widget” and the other uses anchor text “thingamabob”, it counts as 2 links.
Or did I just make that up?
that’s nice info. I never thought before that an internal link will be valued as an external link.
i was unaware of the importance of inlinks rom the same website. But it must be lesser effective than backlinks from other site …
